It's that time of year again! The annual AACE International meeting kicks off on June 11 in Orlando, FL. Our own Nick Papadopoulos will be there presenting our new benchmarking solution, Cortex Project History, on Tuesday, June 13 at 9:30 am.

Let’s face it. We are all biased. Bias stems from our past and our current environment. It influences our future. Bias shapes the way we feel, the way we think, and our behavior. It drives our decision-making process more than we care to admit.
2017 will be a big year for our team.
We’ve been working hard for quite some time on a new benchmarking solution. While we’re still in the sausage-making process, the light at the end of the tunnel is looking bright and I can’t wait to show you what we’ve come up with.

This year’s conference was held at the Sheraton Centre Hotel in Toronto, Canada. Once again, the AACEI staff put on a great conference in a great venue in a great city. For those that haven’t spent time in Toronto (especially in the summer), I highly recommend you find some time to enjoy the city.

The need for accurate preliminary estimates is never more apparent than in the electric power industry. Projects such as new substations are constantly being considered for capital expense and budgeting. Studies that include cost impact analysis are also important to continually improve the performance and reliability of the electrical grid.
Last week I attended the Estimating Technology for Construction 2016 conference in San Francisco, CA. This was the inaugural event, so I had no prior experience for gauging the attendance and speaker quality.

What’s the right approach to a cost estimating solution? Should the user be responsible for the heavy lifting, or should the system handle most of the work?
I just returned from another trip to Las Vegas (the fourth one in the last nine months) to attend the annual AACEI conference. This is the conference to attend if you're interested in cost engineering and total cost management. Attendance was high with close to 800 participants. While it's not unusual to meet clients and prospects focused on buildings and facilities, the conference is best suited to the non-building sector: energy, process, infrastructure, etc.
