Big Data: How to Leverage Estimating’s Data Explosion

Posted by Nick Papadopoulos on Jul 11, 2017 10:42:00 AM

Construction estimating is on the verge of a data explosion. As virtual design and construction methods increase in use, preconstruction teams are dealing with tens to hundreds of estimate iterations depending on a project’s size. Estimators need to find an effective way to organize, manage, and control that information. And they need to leverage it to make better decisions and forecasts.

Even more traditional estimating teams are dealing with an excessive number of project changes that require quick feedback on the cost impact of each design modification. With local, network, and cloud data storage now readily available and cost effective, there’s no longer any reason not to capture data that can help provide faster, more reliable cost feedback.

5 Construction Estimating Trends to Watch

Posted by Walter Davis on Jun 27, 2017 10:45:00 AM

I recently was on the road for four weeks exhibiting at and attending some of the most informative construction technology conferences today: BuiltWorlds in Chicago, Advancing Building Estimation in Houston, and ENR FutureTech in San Francisco. These conferences attract some of the best and brightest minds in the construction industry.

Nick Papadopolous, CEO of estimating and benchmarking technology consultant Eos Group, joined me at several of the events. For this blog post, I sat down with Nick to discuss our observations from the conferences and what we see as the latest estimating trends. Here is an overview of our conversation:

I want to share a story about a system evaluation that surprised me. System evaluations don’t usually work out this well, but this one warrants sharing.

2D + 3D + Sage Estimating = 5D BIM

Posted by Sage Estimating on Sep 27, 2016 10:10:00 AM

We've all been waiting for an intuitive solution that complements VDC teams and estimators rather than forcing a process to fit technology. After the success of eTakeoff's Bridge and proving that a system can learn from mapping efforts between a digital plan and Sage Estimating, the promise of Bridge and Navisworks is holding true. It looks like Autodesk QTO users have something to cheer about.
